Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas

It’s just about that time of year again. In 1 weeks time all the little ghouls and ghosts will be out going door to door in hopes of receiving candy. Kids all through North America cannot wait for next Friday so they can finally dress up in there newly purchased or home-made costumes. But what if you are still trying to come up with an idea for the costume?
I’m going to assume that you are interested in making your own costume this year since you have stumbled onto this blog. I hope I can help with a few fun costume ideas that can be made at home in less than a week and for less than most store bought costumes.
Minecraft Characters
I’m not going to begin to get into what Minecraft is other than the fact it is a hugely popular video game right now and chances are your son or daughter loves playing it. Did you know you could dress them up as their favourite characters from the game quite easily? This is an idea my son came up with this year so we have been building the costume the last few days and so far it looks great. All you need is some cardboard, glue, a printer and a little patience. Below is a link to some easy to follow instructions for creating a Steve or Creeper costume for your little ones.

Bricks of Lego
Lego is quite popular with kids now a days. Ever thought of a costume related to Lego? You could create a Lego mini figure that would be neat but a little time consuming and lets face it, we are running out of time for this years Halloween costumes. Why not make something a little more simple like a brick of Lego? Well with a little cardboard, paint and some old recycled yogurt containers you can create a wearable Lego brick costume.

Olaf
Finally what would be cuter than your child dressing as Olaf from Disney’s Frozen this Halloween? All you need is a white toque, white sweatshirt and white pants and some construction paper to cut out the eyes, buttons, tooth and carrot nose. Need an idea for a place to get the clothing you may need for the homemade costume you choose? Try a thrift shop for clothes that can be purchased cheaper and you don’t need to worry about wrecking them when gluing different things onto them.
If you have waited this long to get your child (or yourself I guess) a Halloween costume you might be out of luck finding the one they want in the big box stores. Making a costume at home can be a fun creative way to make a Halloween costume for less than a store bought costume. Plus they are all original since you have created it yourself. You can make it a project with your son or daughter and really put their own creative original touches on it.
